If you've followed Youthful Kinfolk since it's inception, you'll at least have heard y.t's name by now. One of the earliest supporters of Youthful Kinfolk, and someone who I'm not only good friends with, but mutually a fan of his music it's been dope to see his progression. From his earliest single to know, y.t. has been perfecting his craft and elevating his music with every single and video he's put out. Here he gets a little more experimental than listeners who first heard him on The Placebo Effect, with a strong thematic mixtape centered around African American history, the title "griot" referring to the old term used to describe a West African poet/storyteller/musician. Using powerful vocal samples from the likes of Angela Davis, Muhammad Ali, Marcus Garvey and more, this project does not disappoint as y.t. raps over production from the likes of FlyLo, Sounwave, Samiyam and more. Stream and download the project below, and if you want to learn more about the Richmond emcee you can check out our interview we did with him here.
